Gunfighters of the Old West Gunfighters of the Old West
by Dave Southworth

Old West gunfighters will always fascinate a large segment of our population. From the pages of this book (and its 43 stories) spring the grit and daring of over 250 gunfighters. Individuals such as Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Doc Holliday, Luke Short and Butch Cassidy hold a special place in frontier history. They precipitated many captivating stories, as did a host of other characters, most with lesser reputations. Whether they were wearing a badge, or running from the law, the gunfighters' exploits live in American folklore.

An impressive gallery of photographs complements the text. This book also contains a special chapter entitled "Guns and Gunmakers," which details the evolution of firearms through the 19th century.

Gunfighters of the Old West II Gunfighters of the Old West II
by Dave Southworth

A Winchester or Colt made brave men even more courageous. When conflicts erupted into gunfights, there was usually a fascinating story to tell. Gunfighters of the Old West II features such noted individuals as Doc Holliday, Cole Younger, Thomas "Black Jack" Ketchum, "Mysterious Dave" Mather, Jim Courtright, John Wesley Hardin, Chris Evans and John Sontag. Much of the action is precipitated by those with lesser reputations.

Bank vaults, stagecoach lockboxes and Wells Fargo safes were frequently easy prey for outlaw gangs. Their members sometimes spent much of their short lives fleeing from the law. Killing was often an act of survival. To a few, it was a way of life. Conversely, there were able peace officers intent on bringing outlaws to justice. Lawmen such as Bill Tilghman, Virgil Earp and Dee Harkey risked their lives for little monetary compensation and a dedication to their badge and what it represented.

Gunfighters of the Old West II strives to present the authenticity behind the individuals and events that are so much a part of American frontier folklore. A special section entitled "Chronology of Frontier Firearms" discusses the weaponry that was prevalent during this period. The text is complemented by a multitude of interesting photographs.

Feuds took on many forms. There were feuds between families, economic struggles, disputes over land rights, political wars, and conflicts between large and small cattle ranchers. The feuds which unfold throughout the pages of this book were selected for inclusion based on interest, renown, variety and historical significance.

Colorado Mining Camps Colorado Mining Camps: A Pictorial Treasure of the Gold and Silver Boom
Written & Narrated by Dave Southworth

Journey with us as we step back in time to a most interesting period of Colorado history, the gold and silver era. Part of our heritage lies with the hearty people who stampeded into the high country, with their picks, shovels and dreams. Mining towns popped up as tent colonies. Gradually, the tents were replaced with log cabins. When a saw mill was completed, frame structures were built. Stores were erected, many with tall and massive false-fronts.

Initially, there were thirty men to every woman, but that would soon change. The early settlements were a melting pot of different people—from different backgrounds—each trying to get rich off of the mountains, or off of others who had already struck paydirt. There were fascinating and colorful characters of all kinds. This is their story—and these are their towns.

Doc Holliday and the Earp Brothers Doc Holliday and the Earp Brothers
Written & Read by Dave Southworth

John Henry "Doc" Holliday was the "nerviest, fastest, deadliest man with a six-gun I ever saw," according to Wyatt Earp. "Doc Holliday was afraid of nothing on Earth" stated Bat Masterson, who also indicated that while under the influence of liquor, Doc "was a most dangerous man." Once he realized that he was dying from tuberculosis, Holliday became fearless. He really didn't care whether or not any other gunfighter put him out of his misery. Kate Elder (Doc's mistress) and Wyatt Earp were the deadly dentist's only true friends. The other Earps merely tolerated Holliday because of his friendship with Wyatt. This is their amazing story.
